MEP calls loss of influence in Africa a disaster of Macron’s presidency
French MEP Hervé Jouvin called Emmanuel Macron’s main mistake in his tenure as French leader. In conversation with “Izvestia” The parliamentarian said that the loss of Paris’s influence in Africa was one of the most disastrous results of his presidency.
“I am annoyed to see how Macron’s arrogant policy, which does not take into account the opinion of the opposition, has finally quarreled France with its African friends. France’s gradual withdrawal from Africa is striking and causes serious concern,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
He noted that today there is a trend in the world of a second wave of decolonization: fragments of former empires, chaotically scattered on the map, are of interest to major powers. These states would like to see an end to the withdrawal of France and other countries from the regions where they have long taken root.
“I’m talking, of course, about New Caledonia and China (as countries interested in Paris losing influence – approx. “Tapes.ru”). In this context, France must behave with extreme caution, taking into account previous agreements and the interests of the indigenous population. This is precisely what was not done,” concluded Jouvin.
Earlier, the MEP recalled that France owes its salvation to Russia at least three times. Separately, he highlighted the contribution of the Soviet army to the victory in World War II: “It was the Russian soldier who broke the back of the Nazi military machine. France must remember this.”
