Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spoke on Monday (16) about the new assassination attempt he was targeted with on Sunday (15) in Florida.
In a conversation with influencer Farokh Sarmad on Elon Musk’s Spaces tool, Trump gave details about the moment he learned he was being targeted by a new assassin. The new assassination attempt occurred while the Republican was on his golf course, playing with friends. The Space was accessed by People’s Gazette from a connection outside Brazil.
“I was playing golf with some friends, it was a Sunday morning, very quiet and the weather was beautiful. Everything was wonderful, a great place to be, and suddenly we heard gunshots in the air, I think four or five,” he said.[…] The Secret Service knew right away it was bullets, and they got me, and I think another one too, Steve Woodcuff, one of my friends. […] “We were in a group and we all just got in the golf carts and we were out real quick. I had an agent with me and he did a fantastic job. There was no doubt we were going to get off that course. I would have loved to have finished that last shot, but we decided, ‘We better get out of here,’” Trump recalled.
The Republican described how the shots he heard at that moment were actually fired by one of the Secret Service agents, who had already managed to spot the man who was preparing to attempt on the life of the former American president.
“A Secret Service agent had seen the barrel of an AK-47, which is a very powerful rifle, and he started shooting down the barrel, shooting into the bushes. He could only see the barrel,” Trump said. “Based on that, he started shooting and ran toward the target. Those were the shots we heard,” he said.
Trump said the gunman never fired a single shot and ran when the Secret Service agent fired shots at him. “The other shooter never got off a shot, and he ran across the street, got into his car or truck, and incredibly, a civilian in the area saw something suspicious, and drove his car behind this man’s truck, took pictures of the license plate, and gave them to the sheriff’s office,” he said.
The White House candidate said that “in a relatively short period of time, they [as autoridades] tracked the man [Ryan Wesley Routh] on the highways, there was a high-speed chase, and they caught him. They caught him. You wouldn’t want someone like that on the loose, you know, he dropped his gun, the AK-47, he left the gun behind. He left cameras behind, he left a lot of stuff behind.”
Trump praised “the civilian,” who he said was a woman, who provided details of the killer’s car and authorities for the “fantastic job” they did.
“The officer did a fantastic job. The civilian did a phenomenal job. A woman. I mean, who would have thought of something like that? How many people would have the presence of mind to follow him, take pictures of the back of the truck, and that’s how they caught him. The key was the license plate. They got the license plate, and then there’s all this technology that can literally track where the truck is. I never knew something like that existed, and they tracked him down the highway. They caught him with a high-speed chase. It was incredible. The Secret Service did an excellent job. And I think I can honestly say that the sheriff’s office and law enforcement, everybody did a great job. I’m happy with that,” he said.
Sarmad noted that this was the second assassination attempt against Trump and asked the Republican what his impression was of it. He then again blamed the rhetoric of Democrats and the radical left for the increase in electoral violence.
“There’s a lot of rhetoric going on, right?” Trump said, noting that members of the Democratic Party insist on investing in the idea that he is a “threat to democracy.” “It appears that these two people were from the radical left,” he said, referring to Routh and Thomas Crooks, the assassin who tried to take his life during the attack on a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
During the conversation, Trump expressed concern about the investigation into the attack carried out by Crooks and raised questions about the process.
“The first person [Thomas Crooks] “They still need to investigate her further. They have applications that they haven’t opened yet, which is very strange. And the shooter’s father hired the top lawyer in the state of Pennsylvania, which is very strange, we’re talking about the shooter’s father in Butler, the first case. And that’s very strange. Some very strange things going on there. I can tell you that,” said Trump, who again praised the work of Secret Service agents at the time of the attack.
The Republican mourned the death of Corey Comperatore, a citizen who was present at the rally in Pennsylvania and was fatally shot by Crooks, and thanked the doctors for saving the lives of the other individuals who were injured at the time. Trump said he was able to raise funds to help the families of those injured.
