The country's Constitution prohibited him from becoming president again, however, this February 4, Bukele proclaimed himself the winner of the presidential race, pending official results. The president, who calls himself the 'dictator of El Salvador' in a sarcastic tone towards his critics, has concentrated in his first term the Executive Branch and his party, Nuevas Ideas, the Legislative Branch. His detractors accuse him of having deteriorated the Judiciary to the point of combining all powers in his hands. Changes in the Supreme Court, the country's Attorney General's Office and his controversial war against gangs are some of the factors that we analyze to understand how he has managed to proclaim himself president again.
