This Wednesday, the Murcia City Council concluded the improvement works at the José Barnés Sports Center after the technical visit to the facilities carried out by the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta. The works, which began last January, involved the renovation of seven tennis courts, three multi-sports courts and a roller hockey rink. “This is an action that improves the safety and comfort of sports practice,” said municipal sources. The City Council acted on an area of 7,919 m2, in facilities that were deteriorated due to daily use.
In this way, both in the tennis courts and in the sports centers, cracks and chips have been repaired to proceed with the installation of a flexible finishing system that allows proper sliding, optimal bounce of the ball and guarantees, in turn, the grip of the athlete's footwear. In addition, the playing lines have been repainted.
Likewise, on the roller hockey rink, a continuous terrazzo pavement has been manufactured 'in situ' which represents a leap in quality in the turns and braking typical of this sport. The work has been completed with the intervention in the enclosure elements of the courts, with the placement of fencing between them and the expansion and incorporation of accesses for athletes and the passage of services. In addition, new nets have been installed on the tennis posts and in the handball and futsal goals. The amount of the work has exceeded 450,000 euros and has been carried out within a period of three months.
Ballesta highlighted that “there has been a profound and absolute remodeling of probably the most used area of all the sports grounds in Murcia and perhaps the largest in the Region, since next to the tennis club, the José María Cagigal pavilion, the Mar Menor pool and the Príncipe Asturias pavilion, we are talking about more than 30,000 m2 destined for sports facilities in the city center.
