summaryDanny Noppert and Dirk van Duijvenbode have impressively qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Cup of Darts. The duo was far too strong for Ireland (2-0). First Noppert won 4-1 against William O’Connor and then Van Duijvenbode was too strong for Steve Lennon with the same figures, so that a decisive pairing match was not necessary.
The Netherlands will face Northern Ireland (with Daryl Gurney and Brendan Dolan) in the quarterfinals tomorrow afternoon. Michael van Gerwen is missing from the World Cup for national teams in the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt because he underwent surgery shortly after his Premier League title due to a wrist injury.
noppert
Noppert opened on behalf of the Netherlands against O’Connor. The Freeze had to find the right rhythm, lost the opening leg, escaped a 2-0 deficit and then was loose.
The number eleven in the world and this year’s winner of the UK Open threw five maximum scores of 180 in three legs and waltzed over the Irishman: 4-1. Noppert averaged 99.53, compared to just under 86 from O’Connor.
Van Duijvenbode
It was then up to Van Duijvenbode to prevent a pairing match and to give the Netherlands a place in the quarterfinals. Aubergeniusthe number fourteen in the world, just like Noppert, had to get up to speed.
Lennon won the second leg, but that was it in Frankfurt. Van Duijvenbode produced four maximum scores and the Irishman was no match for that: 4-1. The average of the Dutchman was impressive: 110.64 (versus 85.18 for Lennon). The finish percentage of Aubergenius was eighty percent.
Evening session
In the evening session of the World Cup of Darts, the favorites were not surprised, although it went easier with some countries than others. The Belgians Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri Van den Bergh had enough to beat Poland in the singles. Australia, England and Scotland needed the doubles to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
Belgium will meet Australia tomorrow while England – Scotland will have a nice squatter on the program. James Wade and Michael Smith play for England, and Peter Wright and John Henderson for Scotland. The Scots are defending their title this year.
