From Petrenas to Aduriz. From red and white to black and white. The illustrious history of Athletic and Valencia is written by hundreds of players, but only 13 could feel what it is to be a lion and a bat. The mystique of San Mamés and Mestalla has been felt by a select few, many of them capable of adorning their windows with titles.
Athletic and Valencia are two historical ones that face each other in a Cup semifinal. They have always been two similar clubs, due to their hobbies, their goals and the importance they have given to the KO tournament. Los Petrañas, Gorostiza, Mundo, Ortuzar, Ventura, Nando Yosu, Marro, Tirapu, Zubizarreta, Eskurza, Patxi Ferreira, Del Horno and Aduriz fed two classics after wearing both shirts. It was Gorostiza, a silk lefty, the one who lived the longest in Athletic and Valencia. Gorostiza was rojiblanco eleven years and che, for six seasons. What’s more, the Basque was one of the few capable of winning the Cup with Athletic (he won four) and Valencia. Already in color, Zubizarreta also left a mark in San Mamés and Mestalla. The last ones who changed the Bilbao estuary for the Turia They were the side Del Horno and Aduriz, a killer who left his goals in two historic ones.
Patxi Ferreira wore the Athletic shirt on 169 occasions and the Valencia shirt on 71 occasions. The former central analyzes the semifinals for AS: “With the only club that the Cup has not been fair is with Athletic. I think it’s his turn to win it, although he will have to go over Valencia first. Bordalás has a great team and it will not be easy. They are two clubs that have always looked alike, but Marcelino and Bordalás have now made two author teams. The Cup gives them the opportunity to get closer to a title because there are four behemoths in the League”.
Ferreira, like 12 other players, had the support of La Catedral and Mestalla. “Neither Mestalla nor San Mamés eat anyone. They only make their teams bigger. In moments of weakness, they are there”, says Patxi Ferreira.
