The industry of video game It’s more than just the studies that make these interactive experiences a reality, as the media also plays an important role. Now, and completely unexpectedly, it has been revealed that IGN Entertainment has bought sites like GamesIndustry.biz and Eurogamer.
Through an official statement, it has been confirmed that IGN Entertainment has purchased Gamer Network publications for an undisclosed amount of money. Gamer Network counts GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer under its threshold (including six editions in local languages in Europe), Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Dicebreaker. The company also owns shares in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry and Hookshot, which operates Nintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox and Time Extension.
As a result of the acquisition, Some redundancies have been made at the UK-based organization. At the moment there are no details on the specific number of layoffs, or if these media will be restructured in any way. The only case where there are details is Digital Foundry, since John Linneman, a member of this specialized site, has indicated that Digital Foundry has not been affected by the layoffs.
IGN Entertainment is the parent company where we find IGN, MapGenie, HowLongToBeat, Humble Bundle, and starting today, Gamer Network. We hope to have more information about it as soon as possible. On related topics, Nintendo has bought a new studio.
Author’s Note:
This is a very important movement. Media acquisition is not new, but this usually brings with it multiple layoffs and heavy restructuring, although it also has a couple of positive points. We just have to see how IGN Entertainment will handle these companies.
