RUV: Entrepreneur Halla Tómasdóttir becomes the new president of Iceland
In Iceland, entrepreneur Halla Tomasdottir was elected as the new president. The television and radio company reports this RUV.
The 55-year-old businesswoman won 34.3 percent of the vote nationwide, according to the latest general election vote count. In second place was the former Prime Minister of Iceland, journalist and teacher Katrin Jakobsdottir. 25.2 percent of the country’s residents voted for her.
Jakobsdottir congratulated Tomasdottir on her victory and also noted that she would be a good president.
It was previously reported that Ukraine signed a four-year security agreement with Iceland worth four billion Icelandic kroner (almost $30 million) annually. In addition, Reykjavik has committed itself to transporting military supplies into the country.
