Czech Republic–Switzerland 2–0 (0–0, 0–0, 2–0)
Czech Republic returned to the first ball of the World Cup after a 14-year break.
The World Cup final, played in an infernal atmosphere in Prague’s O2 arena, was won by the Czech Republic in the final when the superstar David Pastrňák scored the winning goal in 49:14. David Kampf sealed the Final readings to nothing 19 seconds before the buzzer.
That’s where the Czechs started a wild gold party, which will undoubtedly continue for many days.
Pastrňák, who scored the golden goal, was a popular talking point at the championship party. Boston’s super cannon surprised himself with his reaction when he scored the game-winning goal.
“I didn’t know that I would score a goal that would bring me to my knees and fan this wildly. That ventilation describes my feelings pretty well after the goal. It was crazy! I had promised myself that I would never vent like that,” Pastrňák said behind a broad smile.
“All the emotions came to the surface at that moment. The fans, this nation… it all came down to it.”
Pastrňák’s 1–0 goal blew up the O2 arena.
At the interview point there were gold-thirsty heroes.
“Hopefully I’ll get a couple of beers now, but I’ll probably be exhausted after that,” gushed the scrappy defender of the Czech Republic Radko Gudas.
“I’m so exhausted. This has been a tough tournament. Now we enjoy this with our families. Tomorrow we’ll probably start celebrating harder, when we have more energy in our legs and we get permission. Now I can’t wait to get to the locker room and have a beer.”
Captain Roman Červenka couldn’t believe what he got his hands on.
Winning the world championship in front of an enthusiastic home crowd left the players almost speechless.
“This is a dream come true. As a child, everyone dreamed of being able to play for their country in the home games, the whole nation stands behind you and everything ends with a championship. It feels unreal. It’s hard to even put the feelings into words,” described Gudas.
“I am incredibly happy for this group. All the players, coaches and maintenance did a wonderful job together. It’s an incredible feeling that we are world champions.”
Gudas also threw a small thorn at his father in the middle of the party buzz For Leo Gudaswho is remembered in Finland as a tough defender of Jyp HT.
“Now my dad can stop joking about having more World Cup medals (four bronze). I now have a better medal than him”, Gudas was happy.
The Czech Republic got to celebrate the world championship after a 14-year hiatus. The last time the World Cup gold party was held in front of the home crowd in Prague was in 1985 – at that time in Czechoslovakia.
The Czech Republic NHL stars Martin Necas was handing out comments with a gold medal around his neck.
“I am almost speechless. I’ve dreamed of this since I was a child. World Championship gold in front of a great home crowd is one of the highlights of my career. The whole country has been living in a World Cup frenzy for several weeks. Its energy has been felt strongly. The crowd pushed us to the end. It feels crazy,” Nečas felt.
Nečas, representing Carolina, made a rare decision by going to the World Cup after the NHL’s second round playoff series, as the 25-year-old forward’s contract expired this season. Necas is a restricted free agent.
“Uh, it doesn’t matter. This can only happen once in my life, because I might not be able to make it to these games again in the future. I didn’t think about my contract situation or the risk of getting injured in the Games. Now we are world champions”, Nečas announced.
Prague dances and plays.
from the World Cup final a wild thriller developed, testing the nerves of the wildly cheering Czech audience.
Both teams had their own seams to score the vital opening goal, but in the end, Pastrňák, one of the NHL’s most feared goal guns, stepped forward at a critical moment.
Pastrňák’s first goal of the tournament released a huge amount of emotion both on the ice, in the stands and on the Czech bench.
“I thought I would pass out when I screamed so loud,” laughed Gudas.
“He had a lot of top-class scoring opportunities in the previous games of the week as well. Everyone has been on him about why the net hasn’t been swinging, but he’s a player who emerges at the right moments. That’s what the best players in the world do.”
The player who played in the top tournament became the new national hero of the Czech Republic Lukáš Dostál. The name of the young hero keeper and Pastrňák was being talked about outside the O2 arena for a long time after the final.
The Czech fans started the party outside the arena.
Championship buzz outside the arena.
The 23-year-old Dostál, who entered the NHL three years ago through Ilves, had a phenomenal hit throughout the World Cup tournament.
“The statistics speak for themselves (93.9%, 1.58 m/o). He was brilliant. Man in the right place. For his age, he is really calm and could play with great confidence. He was our support and security in this tournament,” Gudas beamed.
Radko Gudas liked the defender corner.
Lukas Dostal was selected as the SM league’s best goalkeeper in Ilves in the 2019–20 season. Now, at the age of 23, he is an NHL goalkeeper and the celebrated golden hero of the World Cup, as well as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Czech great legend Jaromir Jagr arrived on the ice after the World Cup final.
The fate of the other was hard.
