San Jose Sharks signed goaltender Kaapo Kähkönen to a two-year contract.
NHL club San Jose Sharks announced on Monday that he signed a two-year contract with his Finnish goalkeeper Kaapo Kähkönen with.
The contract is worth $2.75 million annually. Kähkönen’s previous annual salary was $725,000.
“Kaapo has shown that he has the potential to be the number one guard in the NHL. He impressed us when he joined us at the end of last season. We are excited to have him,” Sharks GM Mike Grier stated.
Kähkönen, 25, played last season first with the Minnesota Wild, who traded him to San Jose in March. In the Sharks, Kähkönen played 11 matches with a save percentage of 91.6.
Throughout the season, Kähkönen made saves in 36 matches with a percentage of 91.2, and was fifth among rookie goalkeepers in the league in wins and save percentage. In total, Kähkönen has played in the NHL in 65 games over three seasons.
He is the under-20 world champion from 2016.
