Ice hockey | Mikko Rantanen tells what his dream chain would be in Leijon

Mikko Rantanen wants to go to the Olympics.

Rumor mill has been grinding promisingly lately.

The long-awaited national team tournament of the world's best hockey players may take place after a long break in a year.

According to media reports, the NHL has planned its own national team tournament for February 2025 – albeit only between four countries: Canada, the United States, Sweden and Finland.

In addition, there has been at least hope that NHL players would be allowed to participate in the Milan Olympics in 2026 – after a 12-year hiatus.

“I haven't read much of the latest stuff. However, at meetings organized by the NHL players' association and others, I've heard that apparently things are on a good track,” Colorado Avalanche superstar Mikko Rantanen says.

Rantanen has once again been the NHL's most effective Finnish player.

He also hopes that there will be a continuum of national team games between the best, not just one or two tournaments for the next few years.

“The Olympics in particular is an event that probably every player, regardless of the sport, wants to be in. It would be nice if it were possible for us for the rest of our careers and then also for future generations. The Olympics would certainly be a very memorable event for every player.”

The lions will become head coach next season Antti Pennanen.

The future coaching staff will assemble the chains in time, but if you play around with the chain formations, Rantase has a clear choice as the second winger alongside him:

“Of course you have to take”Arsi” (Artturi Lehkonen) to the left. A good guy and teammate with whom we have good chemistry.”

“(Alexander) Barkov(Sebastian) Clearing and (Roope) Hintz are all centers. It is quite difficult to choose one. There's no way I can, and everyone is still a good acquaintance, so I don't mind. Everyone is the best in the world. If you get to play with one of them, there are no complaints.”

Mikko Rantanen, Roope Hintz and Niko Mikkola won the World Youth Championship gold in 2016. They may be seen after a ten-year break in the same team at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

The mentioned three Finnish center forwards are all the first centers of their teams. Even top clubs that were in the NHL conference finals last season.

“The mid lane always plays a big role if you want to succeed and win. It would be pretty good if you could pull away with a trio like that,” says Rantanen.
