The President asked for more coordination from government agents and said that the Finance Minister “should spend a few hours” in Congress instead of “reading books”
The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddadsaid this Monday (April 22, 2024) that he “just do this for a living”, laughing, in response to the demand made earlier by the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The head of the executive had said that he expects greater dialogue with the National Congress from his Government.
In the case of Haddad, Lula said that he “instead of reading a book, you should waste a few hours talking in the Senate and the Chamber”. The president also asked his vice president for more agility, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB).
“It's difficult, but we can't complain because politics is exactly like that. Either you do it like this or you don’t get into politics.”, he declared during the launch of “Acredita”, a credit program for micro and small companies.
The speech takes place during the government's expectation of emerging from the crisis in its relationship with the Legislature. On April 11, the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL) called the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilhain “personal disaffection” It is “incompetent”. Since then, Planalto has worked to get closer to the heads of Congress.
Also this Monday, it was confirmed that Lula and Lira spoke by phone and there is an expectation that the president will still meet with the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).
