Misseri obtained a series of sentence reductions thanks to the good behavior demonstrated in prison. And also the law empties prisons allowed him to reduce his sentence by a few months, given that it should have ended in 2025.

On 6 October 2010 the uncle admitted to prosecutor Mariano Buccoliero that he was the murderer of his niece. He had also indicated the place where the well was located where she had hidden her body, in the Avetrana countryside.
Nine days later he recanted, involving his daughter Sabrina Misseri. She later changed her story again, taking on the crime of her 15-year-old niece. But the judges have always found his wife Cosima Serrano and daughter Sabrina Misseri guilty. The two women are serving life sentences in Taranto.
