Consulted in his morning press conference, in National Palace, Regarding whether he believed it was possible for the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation to overthrow the reform, the president declared: they are capable. He argued that the Judiciary is part of the criminal association that dominated Mexico.
“But hey, what if I’m wrong, they’re going to give me my ‘have so I can learn’, I’d like that,” said López Obrador, who highlighted that so far there is no resistance from the Afores to the reform of the pension system. .
The President explained that the reform was carried out to create a pension fund for Welfare, to compensate the worker so that they can retire, especially those with less income, with 100 percent of their salary.
“But the question is, how do we integrate that fund? Where is the money going to come from to compensate the workers? So we said: there are several sources of financing, and one, which we liked, was that the workers who did not claim their pensions, left the money in the Afores and the Afores did not report,” said the man from Tabasco.
“So, what we said; we are going to do two things. One, the right to claim that fund is never cancelled, and two, if time has passed and there was no longer a claim, no one has claimed that money, it goes to the pension fund to Welfare to replace those who are retiring and give them 100 percent.
López Obrador mentioned that there were 40 billion pesos, but the Afores and they had only delivered, which by law they had to deliver to the IMSS, one billion pesos.
“So, that’s why they made a scandal, because all that money sweating in the banks’ coffers. But the Welfare pension fund is not only integrated with that as well. The law establishes that everything that is confiscated from the organized crime is going to the bottom”.
“It is also established that the debts of the states, to the ISSSTE, are forgiven 75 percent so that they are up to date, and the 25 percent that they are going to pay goes to the fund. And there are other sources of financing and that this fund is going to manage the Bank of Mexico.”
He said that the law was approved, of course with the opposition of the conservatives, and the Bank of Mexico trust is already being processed.
“We already know who needs to be compensated since July 1, which will come into effect,” said the president, who showed a list of the payments planned in accordance with the reform.
The first beneficiaries would begin to collect on July 1, the head of the Executive reiterated. Very few start, the problem will be in the future as the number will increase.
“But this is a mechanism that is established to compensate retirees, so the surprise was that yesterday they went to Court to ask that the pension fund be declared unconstitutional,” the President added.
“I mean, I don’t know, really, I don’t understand them, because they say: they are going to steal the Afores, they are going to leave them without pensions, besides being false, it is money from the workers for the workers, it is a pension for a pension.” “.
López Obrador expressed that if that money were used to build a highway, a train, even a hospital, they would still be able to say why the money from my pensions is used for that.
“But it is for the benefit of the workers,” said the President. This is what they want to veto, but there is no reason, they do not argue, it is opposing for the sake of opposing.”
