Unfortunately, hacker attacks are always very frequent, as preventing every little security hole is certainly a meticulous and complex job. The most recent victim was Hyundai Italia, which has seen its servers hacked in recent days. Customers were promptly notified with an email explaining how unfortunately some customer data has been accessed by third parties.
Fortunately no financial data or official identification numbers are includedHowever, the attackers may have gained access to emails, addresses and telephone numbers, as well as vehicle chassis numbers. For now, the company recommends everyone to pay attention to any contact attempt by Hyundai and above all by do not click on suspicious links. Here is the official letter:
On behalf of Hyundai Motor Company Italy, I regret to inform you that our company has recently learned that an unauthorized third party has accessed certain information contained in our customer database. As soon as we were notified of the incident, we immediately launched an investigation and implemented all measures to contain it. We turned to the best cybersecurity specialists and our lawyers to support us in handling the incident.
We promptly informed the Guarantor for the Protection of Personal Data and among the various security measures adopted, we blocked the server concerned and permanently removed it from the network. We are continuing to work with our IT teams to ensure our systems maintain a high standard of security. Our IT investigations have confirmed that some of our customer data may indeed have been impacted. Specifically, the data includes contact information (such as emails, addresses and telephone numbers) and vehicle data (such as chassis numbers).
Neither financial data nor official identification numbers were affected. Although there is no evidence that the data concerned has been used for fraudulent purposes, out of extreme caution, we invite you to pay particular attention and to verify any contact attempt via e-mail, post and/or text message that may appear to come from Hyundai Italia or by other entities of the Hyundai Group. In particular, we recommend that you avoid pressing any link that may be contained in the contact attempt you may receive.
