Manufacturer Hyperkin has unveiled the Mega 95a new portable console made specifically to run the games of the unforgettable Sega Mega Drive via original game cartridges.
The portable console is based on the MegaRetroN HD also produced by Hyperkin and features a 5 inch display compatible with both 4:3 and 16:9 formats and a battery that should guarantee at least 10 hours of play per charge.
Not only that, similarly to Nintendo Switch, it will be possible connect the Mega 95 to a dock connected to a TV or monitor and use it as if it were a fixed console. The dock is included in the price and has ports for connecting additional controllers.
No details on price and availability
Hyperkin's press release unfortunately offers no details on price and release date of the Mega 95. We can however assume that it will not differ much from that of the SupaBoy Portable Pocket Console, a portable version of the NES from the same company, sold for $119.99.
In any case, the Mega 95 could prove to be a “trinket” that could appeal to many retro gamers interested in the idea of playing classic titles such as Sonic The Hedgehog, Street of Rage 2 and Phantasy Star 4 in portability, just to name a few.
