The H2.City Gold hydrogen bus, a passenger transport vehicle developed by CaetanoBus and equipped with Toyota Fuel Cell technology, makes its début in the heart of Umbria. The preview took place at Palazzo Spada in Terni during the event entitled ‘Mobility powered by hydrogen: a reality‘, also by virtue of the city’s commitment to the Hydra Project, which sees hydrogen technology as an essential element for the energy transition, with particular attention to the impact that this technology may have in reducing polluting emissions from public mobility and private.
The Caetano H2.City Gold is a city bus of 12 meters equipped with Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell technology, capable of traveling up to 400 km on a full tank of hydrogen, which recharges in less than 9 minutes and has water droplets as its only emission. This medium testifies to the complementarity of the engineering skills and technologies developed by both companies. The event also featured the Toyota Miraithe world’s first hydrogen fuel cell powered sedan, spearhead of Toyota’s commitment to sustainable mobility, mass-produced since 2014. The Mirai arrived today at second generationwith further technological developments that have lengthened its range with a full and shortened i refueling times. The environmental advantage of driving the Toyota Mirai goes beyond zero emissions to “negative emissions”: the car effectively cleans the air while traveling, thanks to an innovative catalytic filter incorporated in the air intake.
“We are very pleased to participate in today’s event, a very important step to increase knowledge of hydrogen mobility solutions and the benefits they can provide to people and society. – declares Andrea Saccone, Communication & External Affairs General Manager of Toyota Motor Italia – As a Toyota Group we have always been committed to achieving sustainable mobility, which sees the increasingly widespread use of low-emission vehicles and mobility solutions. For this reason, for over 30 years we have been investing in the development of all electrified solutions, including that of the hydrogen-powered Fuel Cells, which equips CaetanoBus buses. This type of solution, which we consider fully complementary to battery-powered electric, also finds application in cars – such as our MIRAI – and in many types of vehicles for heavy transport and rail, up to boats.“.
Toyota’s experience led to the development and application of hydrogen also for other solutions beyond cars, as for buses, thanks to the partnership with CaetanoBus, for trains, boats, forklifts, generators, up to vehicles for lunar exploration. Starting in 2020Toyota also planned to to increase the production of fuel cells tenfoldpassing from 3 thousand to 30 thousand units per year after 2020while from January 2022, Toyota has started the production of the new modules, based on its advanced second generation fuel cell system.
