Castro Urdiales celebrate this weekend festivity of Saint Andrewpatron saint of sailors, whose commemorative events have brought together hundreds of local people. This festival is declared of Regional Tourist Interest. The councilors of Development, Housing, Territorial Planning and Environment, Roberto Media, participated in the events this Saturday; and Rural Development, Livestock, Fishing and Food, María Jesús Susinos; as well as the director of Fisheries, Paulino San Emeterio, as reported by the Government in a press release.
Both have accompanied neighbors and local authorities in the traditional procession of the image of the saint from the Fishermen’s Guild to the church of Santa María de la Asunciónwhere a mass sung by the Ochote Los Templarios was celebrated. The councilors have agreed to value this day of tribute to the fishermen of this municipality, “historically linked to the sea and the seafaring tradition that has contributed over the years to the economic and social development of the people of Castreños.”
During this Saturday, the traditional snail gastronomic contest or the boat and trawler regattas, as well as musical performances, among which the one by the castreño group Copernicus Dreams stands out, in the Marineros neighborhood. On Sunday the 1st, the second edition of the ‘Castro por la Música’ festival will take place and the awards ceremony for the XXXV edition of the Poems of the Sea and its People contest will take place. Finally, as tradition dictates, the castreños will say goodbye to ‘Andresín’ until next year.
