Hülkenberg at Sauber, and Steiner compliments him
With three top-10 finishes in the first five races of the season, Nico Hülkenberg he earned the covers and the call from Sauber for a multi-year contract, which will allow the #27 to certainly be the first driver to represent the Audi brand in 2026.
It is clear that the lure of Audi, especially for a German, was too great, with all due respect to a team like Haas to which Hülkenberg remains grateful for having brought him back to Formula 1. It was the former team that wanted him back in the Circus principal Günther Steinerwho now complimented Hülkenberg on his contract with Sauber and took a dig at his former team.
Steiner's post
This is Steiner's post on Instagram: “Well done Nico, go ahead and level up“.
From Steiner's short sentence one can perceive some resentment towards Gene Haas' call last winter, with which the team owner ousted him in favor of Ayao Komatsu. Now with this exit Steiner seems to want to remove stones from his shoes, but the subtext behind this dig is that the South Tyrolean is also somehow responsible for the “low level” of Haas, which in three of the last four seasons has finished last place. With Komatsu, however, the US team started well, managing to make progress on the race pace. It remains to be seen, of course, whether Haas can keep pace with the developments against Alpine, Williams and Sauber, who are currently at zero.
