Yesterday, the funeral ceremony of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died on Sunday in a helicopter crash in a rugged mountainous area, took place in the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran. Iranian state television reported that the elections will be held on June 28.
Under his new powers, the country’s interim president, Mohammad Mokhber, issued a decision appointing the chief Iranian negotiator, Ali Bagheri, as acting foreign minister, succeeding Amir Abdullahian, who died among those on board the ill-fated helicopter.
In the context of the transfer of power, Movahedi Kermani was elected president of the Iranian Leadership Council of Experts yesterday, with a majority of 55 votes, according to what was reported by Iranian media. According to the internal regulations of the Iranian Leadership Council of Experts, Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani is scheduled to assume the presidency of the Council for a period of two years. The sixth session of the Leadership Council of Experts was held yesterday, in the presence of Mohamed Mokhber, the interim president of the country, the heads of the legislative and judicial authorities, and government figures. It is noteworthy that the Leadership Council of Experts is one of the governing institutions in Iran, and its primary mission is to select the country’s leaders and monitor their performance. The term of the Council is eight years, and its members are elected by Iranians.

The delegation included, in addition to Raisi himself and Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian, the Friday imam in the city of Tabriz, Ali Al-Hashim, and the governor of East Azerbaijan, Malek Rahmati.
