Airpro Oy’s Director of Development and Communications Hanni Marin says the new employee ‘s safety assessments and training take an average of just over a month.

Airpro handles passenger security checks at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport on behalf of the airport company Finavia. Airpro currently has more than 400 employees in security screening at Helsinki-Vantaa.

When a company decides to recruit a jobseeker as a security inspector, he or she is first subjected to a security clearance by the Security Police, or Supo.

“It takes an average of two weeks. Supo looks at different things, ”says Marin.

Supo conducts security investigations of both individuals and companies. The purpose of the investigations is to prevent activities that endanger national security.

As the airport is considered a security critical area, a security clearance will be carried out for its employees.

When Supo’s security report is returned approved, and an employee recruited by Airpro participates in training for the security inspector.

According to Marin, the training first includes five days of theoretical training. Theory training is unpaid.

After that, the so-called OTJ period begins on the job on-the-job training period. OTJ training lasts three weeks. During it, the trainer guides the fresh security examiner at work. The OTJ period is paid.

“Education is well regulated. During the OTJ period, the person is not yet involved in the strength of the employees, ”says Marin.

After the training, a person recruited by Airpro will take a screening test. Only then will the new employee be ready as a security inspector.

“If all the steps are stretched, it will take two months here. The training usually takes about a month, ”says Marin.

From the airport Anyone over the age of 18 who speaks both Finnish and English can apply as a security inspector.

“We’ve been recruiting people non-stop since last fall,” Marin says.

“The staff is relatively young, so the turnover is high. After the summer, people are always recruited when they go to study and move. ”
