There are also those who have not heard of the Silver Fox fire at all. Tourists spend their holidays mainly in a happy atmosphere.
Thursday night HS asked a few tourists they met in Äkäslompolo about their thoughts on the hostel fire.
Answers came from far and wide. We were surprised that there was no more talk about the fire. There were also those who hadn't heard about the hostel's events.
With their families a Dutch woman who came to Lapland on vacation is surprised by the silence around the matter. He thinks it's weird.
“I thought it was bigger news here,” he says.
“Everyone is in a holiday mood, going on a husky safari [ja] to the reindeer farm, but they don't worry about the news,” he says.
Woman wishes to remain anonymous due to his profession. He says he read about the fire in a Belgian from HLN magazine. Two Belgian women staying in the hostel have told the magazine about their experiences. According to HLN, there was no fire alarm in the hostel, says the woman interviewed by HS.
“I have questions about the security of the hostel,” says the woman interviewed by HS.
He says that what happened is sad.
Another Belgian family has also read about the Silver Fox fire in the Belgian media. Marc, Chris and Wert Speeckaert mixed Brem Erauw are on vacation in Lapland. They state that although the incident is unfortunate, “it happens” and according to them, the situation could have happened to anyone.
Its instead the Swiss Gabriela Eggenberg and Heidi Rechsteiner have not heard of the fire at all. The two have arrived in Finland at the end of January and they will return home in about a week.
During their vacation, they have, among other things, gone skiing and gone on a husky safari.
Also Dutch Daimen, Daghmar, Dab and Arian Caljouw hear about the fire for the first time from a reporter.
“We haven't heard anything,” says Arian Caljouw.
The family spends a vacation week in Finland. The plans include, among other things, a visit to a reindeer farm and snowmobiling.
