According to Mustonen, political decision-makers do not take food theft seriously enough. He calls for much-talked-about conversion sentences that would result in thieves going to jail if certain sanctions are not met. However, the proposal is often criticized for not effectively addressing the addiction issues that underlie theft.

Mustonen says that the problem of spoofing is quite significant for traders. Usually, thefts are directly off the proceeds of transactions.
