It may seem obvious or trivial, but it is not. Just look at some novice bikers with an e-bike to understand how common an activity is like washing your own bike to assisted pedaling may raise some doubts. The question is: how to wash an e-bike? Using the pressure washer like we always did with the old muscle? Or, considering that the e-bike hides an electric motor and a battery, do you need to give it special attention?
With an e-mtb every ride is an excursion and it often happens that you are faced with an adventure that mixes mud, rain, dust, snow in winter. That’s why the few but necessary rules to clean the pedelec in the best possible way are important.
Let’s begin to dispel the first doubt: the e-bike not afraid of water, and it is a means totally resistant to it. As a result, we can wash it like a muscle bike. But be careful: you have to give up the pressure washer high pressure. Better to adapt to a “normal” jet of water. The dirt must then be removed with a soft brush and with the help of a bike cleaner (specific for bicycles, in fact products designed for cars or motorcycles should be avoided). After the cleaning operation, the vehicle must be rinsed clearly to eliminate the residues of the cleaning liquid used, turning the e-bike upside down to facilitate drying.
Specific advice for cleaning an e-bike is also that, once washing is finished, of dry the electric plates contact with the battery. And to complete the work, before storing our bicycle in the garage or living room, we must remember lubricate the chain with an ad hoc product.
On the other hand, for an e-bike that has collected only a little dust or that has only superficial dirt, as can happen in the dry period, the best solution is a damp microfiber cloth: you save a lot of water and still get decent results. .
