How I’m doing my Twitter move

Yesterday I opened an account on bluesky (@Irenelozano.bsky.social). I started with two generous followers and felt the lightness of letting go of ballast. I don’t feel like I’m abandoning Twitter, but rather that Twitter abandoned me a long time ago, like all of us who believe in the need for an interesting, rational and constructive public conversation. I haven’t completely stopped it yet: a couple of days ago they charged me the monthly bill. It will be the last and during this month I will still try to convince those of you who read me to also make the move to bluesky.

A few months ago I wrote here that the US elections would be a turning point to reassess whether to continue on that social network or leave it. The result has made it clear that Elon Musk has turned it into a toxic pit: he spreads disinformation to stimulate racism, extremism and hatred. At the same time, it hides or evades the climate emergency and the world’s inequality problems, including those of women. He does all this in defense of his selfish interests. Two very relevant media, Guardian and The Vanguardhave decided to stop posting on Twitter in the last two days, with similar arguments.
