THE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS continue to transform multiple aspects of our lives, and the payment cards is no exception.
A survey recent, carried out by Idemia Secure Transactions, between December 2023 and January 2024, reveals interesting trends in how users of everyone prefer pay and what are your expectations regarding payment methods.
The results highlight three key priorities: design, convenience and sustainability.

Globally, 71% of respondents already use digital payment cardsand 68% of those who do not yet have one, express their desire to obtain one in the next three years.

In Mexico, these figures are even higher, with 76% using digital cards and 88% wishing to obtain one in the near future.

The adoption of digital cards It is most prominent among 18- to 37-year-olds, with convenience and safety as primary motivations.
However, the need for physical cards persists due to concerns about the devices’ battery life, limited acceptance of contactless payments, and the need for cash withdrawals.
Finally there is the change towards greater sustainability in payment methods, which is another crucial aspect.
Globally, 69% of consumers would prefer an ecological card over a conventional one.
In Mexico, this preference is even stronger, with 78% of consumers opting for more sustainable options.
Additionally, interest in innovations such as biometric and illuminated cards is growing.
In Mexico, 76% of consumers are interested in biometric cards for security and hygiene reasons, although there are concerns about privacy.
Also, 65% show interest in illuminated payment cards.
Despite the trend towards digitalization and sustainability, some challenges remain.
Concern about fraud in payments in stores and online is high, affecting 95% of Mexican consumers. This concern underscores the need for more secure and reliable solutions.
