Chapter 8 of “House of the dragon” —“The Lord of Tides”— is now available at hbo max. It is one of the most emotional episodes that leaves Paddy Considine’s performance as Viserys Targaryen high and that establishes him as one of the best characters in the world of “Game of Thrones”.
In this note we tell you what that last dialogue between Alicent and Viserys means. From now on there will be series and book spoilers.
What happens at the end of “House of the dragon” 1×8?
At the end of “House of the Dragon” episode 8, King Viserys Targaryen dies. However, minutes before, dazed by the medication, he revealed to his wife Alicent Hightower Aegon the Conqueror’s Dream.
He believed that he was with Rhaenyra, so he spoke openly about this. secret that is only shared between kings from generation to generation.
When Alicent heard the words “Aegon” Y “Prince That Was Promised”she thinks that he is talking about her eldest son (who has the same name), which will start a dispute with Rhaenyra for the throne.
What does the end of chapter 8 of “House of the dragon” mean?
The last conversation Alicent and Viserys have is basically a big misunderstanding on the part of the queenwho had already made peace with Rhaenyra over dinner.
So the king’s widow now assumes her husband’s dying wish is for their son Aegon to become king of Westeros (something heard in the 1×9 trailer).
This confusion will be what unleashes the famous “Dance of Dragons”which in the books refers to the period of civil war between the Targaryenswho will be divided into two sides by the Iron Throne.
The ‘blacks’by Rhaenyra, and the ‘Green’by Alicent, will face each other to decide who is the heir after the death of Viserys.
