Formula 1 officially opened its new era with the first pre-season test session in Barcelona, where the drivers tested their respective single-seaters on the track following the technical regulations in force this year. Among the very first impressions that emerged from those who covered the first laps on the Spanish track, there were also the comments of some team principals, positively impressed by the characteristics of the cars: among them, Christian Horner and Andreas Seidl.
The first, who attended the first day of testing with Max Verstappen at the wheel, did not hide a certain satisfaction in seeing certain results that emerged from the RB18, even more so after the 1: 22.246 signed by the reigning world champion: “I think that the performance of these cars is already amazing – Horner specified in a statement reported by racingnews365.com – and they will certainly also be seen in high-speed corners. It is always interesting to see cars for the first time after such a huge variation in the rules, and it is equally fascinating to see how all the teams are interpreting these rules. Over time, it will be interesting to see how the cars develop compared to today, also because I’m sure they will all be very different once we get to the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi ”.
A line of thought, that of the British manager, which goes perfectly with that of Andreas Seidl; even the McLaren team principal noted the times recorded by Lando Norris in Barcelona, the result of a speed that impressed the German engineer: “As Christian said, it is impressive to see the lap times – he added – the main focus is on ourselves and on making the machine work, but, with the numerous changes to the technical standards, there is also tremendous interest in everyone else, to see what they have done to interpret these new regulations and to see if there are any new ideas we should consider. It is a particularly exciting time for everyone, and it is fantastic for Formula 1. It will be nice to analyze all the progress up to the first race in Bahrain ”.
