Hopes are over for Lewin Weituschat, the young student who disappeared a few days ago: where he was found

The body of the young student who disappeared on Gran Sasso, Lewin Weituschat, has reportedly been found, after being missing for days. Recovery operations are still underway

The probable discovery of the body of the 25 year old was reported a few hours ago, Lewin Weituschatdisappeared on the Gran Sasso and had been missing for several days.

A team of specialized technicians from the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service has recently found the lifeless body of a tall man near the gorge of Fossacecaon the Mount Prena. It is, most likely, the student who disappeared in those areas a few days ago. An official announcement that will come, obviously, only with the recognition of the victim by his family.

The 25 year old student, Lewin Weituschat, had come to Italy to follow the program Erasmus at the Institute of Forestry Sciences of the University of Padua.

Last August 10, the boy had decided to undertake an excursion to the peaks of Gran Sasso. He had set out alone. His tracks had been lost between the mountain Shirtwhere it had been spotted by other hikers, and the mountain Crowlocated on the Teramo side of the Gran Sasso.

The last contact he had with his family dates back to August 8, to whom he had sent a photograph of himself via chat. The news of his disappearance was followed by a huge mobilization by the large rescue machine and the many volunteers who intervened in the search operations.

Unfortunately, today all the faint hopes of a possible happy ending to this story have been dashed. The young man’s body was in fact found inside the Fossaceca gorge.

Of the young man in recent days only the backpack was found in the Calderone area, thanks to the intervention of the L’Aquila firefighters, who were immediately involved in the search operations, together with volunteers and law enforcement.

Currently, the recovery operations of the body are still underway and it will then have to be identified by the victim’s family.
