China recorded a series of protests over the weekend against the Chinese authorities’ “covid zero” policy. According to survey of CNN, the country registered, until this Monday (28.nov), demonstrations in at least 16 cities. The count includes two of China’s largest cities, Beijing and Shanghai.

In Hong Kong, the national security law imposed by Beijing in 2020 was used to suppress demonstrations. The Chinese government has tightened security in the cities of Beijing and Shanghai.

The easing of restrictive measures is the main request of the protesters. In the protests, the deaths registered in the city of Urumqi, in the Xinjiang region, on November 24, are attributed to the restrictions. According to the protesters, the government measures would have made it difficult to rescue the victims.

On Saturday (26.Nov), around 300 protesters took to the streets in Shanghai against the restrictions.

Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Wuhan recorded demonstrations on Sunday night (27.Nov). Political freedoms were also claimed.
