A car manufacturer that aims to become carbon neutral it must also focus on the CO2 footprint resulting from its production. Honda is well aware of this, and has asked its main component suppliers for reduce CO2 emissions annually by 4% compared to 2019 levels, a strategic choice in line with that undertaken by Toyota. A Honda spokesperson confirmed that the Japanese company is working to achieve carbon neutrality with its suppliers as well, hence the brand’s decision to address its supply chain in this way.
As mentioned, the same request was made last June by Toyota. Japan’s largest carmaker plans to become carbon neutral in each of its operations by 2050, for this it had asked its supply chain to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. “Carbon neutrality isn’t something a company can achieve on its own, then we asked our suppliers to work together to achieve it“, a Toyota spokesman told Reuters microphones. Compared to Honda, however, Toyota’s request envisaged a reduction in CO2 emissions of 3%, not 4%.
