The sale and purchase of homes soared last September by 41.5% year-on-year to a total of 61,887 transactions. This is the largest increase since August 2021 and its highest number of transactions since July 2007, when more than 63,000 sales and purchases were exceeded.
The September advance published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) confirms that the sale and purchase of homes is chaining three months of year-on-year increases after in July and August it rose by 19% and 0.9%, respectively.
The year-on-year increase in home sales in September was due both to the rebound in new apartment transactions. The latter advanced 54.9% year-on-year (their highest rate since June 2021) to 12,531 operations (the highest number in more than 20 yearssince January 2014), while those carried out on used homes, which grew by 38.4% (record since September 2021) to 49,356 operations (highs since May 2022).
According to Statistics, 92.4% of the homes transferred by sale in September were free homes and 7.6% were protected. In total, the purchase and sale of free homes increased by 41.3% year-on-year, to 57,179 transactions, while the purchase and sale of subsidized homes increased by 43.6%, to a total of 4,708 transactions.
In an inter-monthly rate (September over August), the sale of homes shot up by 25.1%, while in the first nine months of 2024 it has increased by 3.1%, with advances of 12.2% in the case of new homes and 1% in used homes.
