“In our world, there is little more to do than try to keep up with the restrictions,” says Riku Kallioniemi, CEO of Liiga.
Hockey League CEO Riku Kallioniemi says that the main series teams are following with interest the decisions made in the administrative courts regarding the opening hours of the gyms.
Administrative Court of Northern Finland said Wednesday suspended the decision to close gyms and other individual sports facilities. With the interim decision, the halls will be open for the time being until a new decision is made.
“We have had a discussion with the clubs and we are monitoring the situation. We will certainly examine carefully whether the closure decisions should be investigated in more detail for us, ”says Kallioniemi.
Both gyms and public events in a numbered seating area are defined as low risk of spreading. Where gyms are customer facilities, League matches are public events. Kallioniemi says that it is not possible to predict whether differences will arise on the legal side.

RECENT interest rate restriction decisions are frustrating in the League. The current situation is that all League games will be played without an audience in the near future.
On Tuesday, the League and all clubs issued an open letter criticizing decision-making and demanding that the operating conditions in the event industry be safeguarded.
Kallioniemi is particularly disappointed with the schedules on which decisions are made. For example, on Tuesday, a decision was made to freeze the corona passport at all events, which meant that three clubs had to give up dreams of taking the audience to an audience on Thursday.
Kallioniemi says that the restrictions seem to have come to the regional government agencies quickly as well.
“The situation is quite confusing. In our world, there is little more to do than try to keep up with the constraints ”; Kallioniemi says.
Kallioniemi says that the League wants to act sensibly and responsibly. The aim is to get over the pandemic without straining health care. He recalls that there are professional assessments of the risks of the events. Reflecting on them, the restriction decisions are disappointing.
“At no point have we wanted to go to the medical site, but experts have assessed the risks of various incidents. This is a professional activity and our clubs organize 500 events a year. It is a clear experience that we have done more than the minimum during a pandemic, ”says Kallioniemi.
