Claudia Sheinbaum, virtual winner of the Presidency of the Republicafter the elections of June 2, has reached a historic figure by exceeding the 35 million votes with 99.7 percent of the records captured from the district counts.
With this impressive number of votes, Sheinbaum obtained five million more than those achieved by Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2018 and surpassed her closest competitor, Xóchitl Gálvez, by more than 19 million votes.
From 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the calculations began in the 300 District Councils of the National Electoral Institute (INE), which will provide certainty and legality to the results of the Federal Electoral Process (PEF) 2023-2024.
These calculations consist of the sum of the records of the 170,766 polling stations installed and are carried out in the 300 district councils of the National Electoral Institute (INE).
At the 9:25 a.m. cut-off this Thursday, June 6, Claudia Sheinbaum had 35,847,858 votes, which represents 59.7662 percent of the total votes cast.
In contrast, Xóchitl Gálvez, PAN-PRI-PRD candidate, had 16,462,782 votes, equivalent to 27.4470 percent of the total. For his part, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, standard bearer of Movimiento Ciudadano, reached 6,190,589 votes, representing 10.3210 percent of the total.
In accordance with the electoral regulations, the 300 District Councils must carry out, on the Wednesday following the day of the Electoral Day, the sum of the votes recorded in the Record of Scrutiny and Computation (AEC), to determine the winning candidacies of the voting on June 2, based on its official and final results.
The procedure consists of adding the results contained in all the AEC of the boxes installed in an electoral district.
The District Counts are carried out in order, according to the type of election: first, those corresponding to the Presidency of the Republic; then, those of Federal Councils and, finally, those of Senators.
If the results of the AEC do not coincide or present any legal cause for their recount, the District Councils will carry out the scrutiny and counting of the votes of the boxes in Working Groups again and will draw up the corresponding minutes with the data obtained.
