Former Bundesliga player Martin Hinteregger returns from his professional football retirement. The 32-year-old Austrian joined Austria Klagenfurt, where he signed a contract until June 2026. The ex-national player, who often attracted attention due to scandals in his career, is eligible to play in head coach Peter Pacult’s first division team from January 1, 2025. Hinteregger was active in Germany for Mönchengladbach, Augsburg and Frankfurt. The cult figure-popular defender celebrated winning the Europa League with Eintracht in 2022. Shortly afterwards he ended his career as a professional, despite still having an ongoing contract. He returned to his native Austria, where he was active until recently in the fifth division with his youth club SGA Sirnitz.
