Helldivers 2 it's a title that it needs both fixes and updates For remain relevant: Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studio, who addressed the topic on Reddit, is convinced of this.
A few days ago it emerged that Helldivers 2 fans would accept less content in exchange for more patches, but for Pilestedt both of these aspects are fundamental as part of a live service experience like this.
“Let me add some context: Arrowhead Game Studio is an independent companyowned by people who work within it, and is not influenced by shareholders in the traditional sense of the word,” explained the CEO.
“Of course we have an excellent collaboration with Sony, with whom we agree on the objectives to be achieved and so on. However, there is no forcing nor do we have to submit to specific requirements. We want to offer the best in the sector and we are calibrating our efforts between fixing problems and adding new content.”
“It's easy to say 'fix and don't add,' but the reality of competitiveness in this industry is that we need to do both to stay relevant. We're trying to understand, the demands and expectations on the studio are high, all eyes are on us and we have one goal: to make this the best game you've ever played live.”
A question of balance
According to Pilestedt, the development team needs to find its own rhythm and balance. “This is a matter of great importance to the firm and I regret the mistakes we have made recently. (…) However, please do not look at this post as if we were defensive.”
“I know we can do better as a studio, and my intention was just to say that the games industry is complicated. We need to stay relevant and keep everyone entertained while we fix things. The expectations of our friends at PlayStation are pretty simple: 'create a great game for players. We trust you'.”
