Reports said that ISIS elements attacked the village of Khadrjija, Makhmour district, killing 3 civilians and wounding others, including civilians and soldiers of the Peshmerga.
During the confrontations, the terrorist organization ambushed the Kurdish Peshmerga forces by planting an explosive device, which led to the killing of 7 members of these forces.
Later, the total number of deaths increased with two more deaths.
The President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, said in a statement that the three civilians killed were brothers.
He stressed the need for the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga together to take swift measures to put an end to ISIS crimes.
And he demanded the necessity of reviewing the military situation, provided that the international coalition participate in supporting the quick steps, pointing out the need to fill the areas between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi forces on the borders of Nineveh Governorate with the region.
Politically, he called on political parties to put differences aside, as unrest would give terrorists a chance to take control.
At the beginning of the week, the terrorist organization ISIS launched an attack on Kurdish forces in northern Iraq, killing 5 peshmerga and wounding 4 others.
Although the Iraqi authorities announced the defeat of ISIS by the end of 2017, after it took control of a third of the country, the terrorist organization’s cells still carry out attacks from time to time.
The organization claimed an explosion last July inside a popular market in Sadr City, killing about 35 people.
