The new expansion of Hearthstone“Assassination at Nathria Castle”Has now arrived on our PCs and mobile devices for a week and we at Eurogamer Italia today will give you our opinion on the latest Team5 effort.
As usual the cards introduced in the game are 135, with a new mechanic (Infusion), but above all a new type of card: the Locations. Investigator Murloc Holmes has been called to the Revendreth’s best-known mansion to investigate the death (but can one really die in the Shadowlands?) Of Sire Denathrius; the main suspects are ten, as many as the guests at the party organized by the Sire.
Hence the idea of Places: being neither creatures nor spells, these cards occupy a place on the board and players will be able to activate their powers three times, once every two turns, until they are exhausted.
Let’s start from this new type of cards that in our opinion were just an excellent find by Blizzard. If we always like being able to have one more choice, as well as having to think more in our game turn, deciding how and when to use the Places makes it all more interesting; also their powers are impacting at the right point, which never hurts.
In these first few days we have used the Magician’s Place a lot, but that of the Shaman, the Druid and the Sorcerer are also going strong. We are sure that over time we will see them increasingly used, in all types of decks. The ten guests / suspects, on the other hand, are obviously represented in the new legendary cards; there are some familiar faces (Rafaam, Kelthuzad, Olgra, Vashj) but also several new faces.
All of them, to date, seemed interesting to us: some have already taken hold in an overbearing way (Kelthuzad, Seline, Arlon, Rafaam, Pelagos), but even the less popular are seeing play and are stimulating the creativity of deckbuilders. We already have several very performing decks for almost all classes, but they are all far from refined, as well as the actual meta is far from stable and defined.
Surely the superstar of the expansion is Sire Denathrius, who makes an excellent display of the new mechanic, or Infusion. A card equipped with this ability will power up in our hand every time one of our minions passes away. A mechanic that brilliantly captures what happens in the Warcraftian afterlife, where the Reapers extract the souls of the dead to increase their powers, forge enchanted weapons and armor and fuel their dark kingdom.
This creature is one of the strongest win conditions currently in circulation in the standard format, especially when paired with the new version of the legendary card Kaelthas Solpeccato and Brann Bronzebeard: a lethal combo that is mainly exploited by the Druid and that allows you to wipe out all the opponents and the same rival hero.
But the new strategies certainly don’t stop there: as we told you, different types of decks are being developed for each class, from the most aggressive to the purely control ones, and that’s exactly what everyone wanted – a nice twist of the game. Currently in the editorial office we have not found any particular defects in this new expansion, on the contrary, on the contrary we are having a lot of fun. All the old decks that have dominated the meta for several months have been supplanted by the new ones, and in the “worst” case they have been renewed to such an extent that they are no longer the same.
The introduction of Renathal that increases the health and consistency of the deck, the new synergies that have been created or the upgrades to the old ones, the locations, some really interesting cards like Murloc Holmes or Teotar the Mad Duke, have made the game fresh and interesting and we can say with certainty that “Assassination at Nathria Castle” is one of the most successful Hearthstone expansions of recent times.
It is therefore time to put on your raincoat, arm yourself with a magnifying glass and start exploring the meanders of the castle to find the culprit … Unless the Sire has concocted this staging to pursue some kind of shady end …
