The City Council of Santa Fe (Granada) has reported on the presence of West Nile virus in this municipalitywhich is why it is adopting control and prevention measures against transmitting mosquitoes and has asked the population to also adopt preventive behaviors.
This was indicated in a statement published on social networks, after the Territorial Health Delegation of the Board met this Monday at noon with the town’s Town Hall to report on the presence of the virus in the municipality, after the three cases of infection in three horses from Pinos Puente, Atarfe and the Zalabí Valley.
In this regard, the City Council has clarified that “in the hypothetical case that a person or animal is infected, they do not transmit the disease or spread it.” “For this, it is necessary express mosquito bite and that this one is infected,” he added.
Faced with this situation, the City Council has assured that “the Public Health surveillance, control and response protocols for West Nile Fever (WNF) established by both the Ministry of Health and the Health Department of the Board of Andalusia”.
Thus, he has indicated that “the detection of the virus has been communicated to the population”, since he has assured that “ fumigation and treatment work by a company approved in areas potentially susceptible to mosquito proliferation”.
In addition, he has indicated that “a Municipal Vector Surveillance and Control Plan (Pmvcv) is being carried out that includes measures such as “identification and location of possible larval foci”“periodic monitoring of the identified areas so that it is not redeveloped” and “carrying out public awareness campaigns.”
In this regard, it has asked citizens to develop preventive behaviors to avoid mosquito biteswhile asking to avoid accumulations of peridomestic water (gardens, pots, tools, etc.) to prevent them from being used for the development of mosquito larvae.
Finally, the City Council has appealed to citizen collaboration and “your peace of mind”, since until now “we are in the preventive phase”, since “at this time of year where temperatures are gradually dropping, the incidence of mosquito is minimized”.
