They denounce the “extreme precariousness” in Primary Care due to “the budget abandonment of recent years”
Seventy-seven health center coordinators in the Region of Murcia met yesterday afternoon “to take a step forward and support an essential change of course in the Primary Care care model,” according to a statement. “The budget neglect that Primary Care has suffered in recent years has led to a situation of extreme precariousness that prevents the current working conditions from being able to adequately meet the needs of the population,” add the coordinators. In his opinion, “the serious deficit of unsubstituted professionals and the overloads derived from the pandemic have brought our level of care to a limit situation.”
The medical coordinators, who have already had several meetings with those responsible for Health on this matter, highlight “the excellent will of the Ministry that has been reflected in a working draft”, a document that “defines a work strategy that will have to be reflected into concrete work proposals.
“The nursing and administrative staff will be insufficiently replaced on these dates,” they add in their letter. “This situation is especially serious in Family Medicine where in most health centers there will not be a single substitute to cover the vacations of, on some occasions, up to twenty family doctors.”
They ensure that most offices will not have substitutes to cover the vacations of family doctors
To which is added, according to the coordinators, “the health problems that professionals may have (we have had several family doctors with Covid at the same time in the same center). Although we are aware that there are no doctors to replace, we want to inform the population that this situation requires attending double consultations throughout the summer, with the consequent impossibility of attending twice as many patients despite limiting the time of attention ».
