The Bologna Prosecutor’s Office accuses Gualandi of the voluntary murder of Sofia Stefani aggravated by futile motives and the emotional relationship
At first it was an accidental but fatal blow. Things have changed a lot from the early hours of the investigation to now. New details arrive on the femicide of Sofia Stefanithe policewoman killed in Anzola, in the province of Bologna.
The 33-year-old was fatally shot on May 16 by service pistol of his former colleague from the local police, Giampiero Gualandi, in the offices of the Anzola command. The task for the autopsy, initially scheduled for May 22nd, has been postponed to May 24th and will be entrusted to Dr. Valentina Bugelli of Parma.
The Bologna Prosecutor’s Office accuses Gualandi ofvoluntary homicide aggravated by futile motives and the emotional relationship. The suspect claims that the shot was fired accidentally during a brief struggle. There are many elements, some to be proven and considered decisive only with the help of in-depth investigations, which suggest otherwise.
According to ‘Repubblica’, some of Gualandi’s colleagues declared that they had never seen the man carry his gun in the officeexcept on rare occasions. A colleague present at the Casa Gialla in Anzola, where the young Sofia Stefani lost her life, confirmed that Gualandi did not usually carry the weapon around. The former commander said that during a one or two minute argument with Stefani, she attempted to grab the gun and a shot went off accidentally.
Since there were no eyewitnesses, the ballistic expertise will be crucial. The trajectory of the bullet will be analyzed and traces of gunpowder will be looked for on the victim’s body. A key point is how it is possible that the Glock had one round in the chamber and another ready after the first shot, even if after the tragedy the weapon was without a magazine when the police arrived.
The Prosecutor’s Office formulated the charge of “voluntary homicide”, hypothesizing that the act occurred “at the height of exasperation”, as reported by ‘Repubblica’. Furthermore, a concrete is being considered risk of escape. For this, it is based on the fact that the suspect has economic resources useful to best deal with a situation of possible detention.
