The Mayor, Gema Igual, has highlighted the housing model in Santander within the framework of the 27th Popular Intermunicipal Conference held in Valladolid under the motto ‘Spain we are all’in which he participated this Saturday. The councilor has taken the opportunity to charge against the Government of Pedro Sánchez, whose policy he has described as “invented”which announced the “construction of 1,300 in the city and has not built any.”
The mayor of Santander has blamed the socialist government for the housing problemsince, as it has meant, “He has allowed housing prices to rise, he has not built public housing, and he does not even know what rental housing is”. Faced with this, Igual has contrasted “the reality” of the policies that the Santander City Council has promoted in this matter, which with the construction of 1,204 homes by the Housing and Land Society since 2009.

He also detailed that, currently, an urban project is being carried out in the city in sector 1 of El Alisal, where the construction of 1,400 homes is planned, of which 282 will be protected. and promoted by the City Council. As explained, these homes have a sales price 30% below that of free housing, which rises to 40% in the case of rentals, in addition to reserving an important quota to prioritize the youth group.
It has also concluded that, with this set of measures, in addition to providing residents with access to housing, the Santander City Council manages to “move the economy, anchor people in our city, increase the population and, above all, do what others they’re not doing.”
