During the pandemic, many people presented mental health problems due to restrictions and confinement, a period that for some was key to making the decision to change their lives. Such as Niav Konno who left USA and moved to Croatia.
In a conversation that the content creator had with the media Insider, He shared that he never imagined himself in a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. job. Additionally, that during the pandemic, when he had to do it, even though he worked from home, he realized that his mental health was at its lowest point, because I had no motivation and took less than 2,000 steps a day.
Some time later he decided to move to Croatia, specifically to the city of Makarska, from where today he maintains the social media accounts of small businesses around the world. Thus, she clarified that she does not intend to return to her home in USA, where people, he said, live to work.
Being a digital nomad is not for everyone, but it brings a lot of satisfaction
Niav Konno shared that he grew up in the Bay area in California and that many of his friends went to universities and found jobs at technology companies. But that life did not convince him, because he realized that his mentality was to work harder, always be busy and not have fun.
Whenever he met his colleagues, they all told him that they had been very busy, it was a kind of competition to see who had the most stress, waiting all week for Friday to arrive: “In California My friends are trying to get that promotion to buy a nice car and a new apartment.”
Since she did not like the pace of life in her state, she thought about moving, and something that made the decision easier for her is that her father is American but her mother is Irish, so she has both nationalities, and when she was little she traveled a lot. with his family.
Thus, initially, in 2015, he moved to London where facing a different environment and meeting new people opened his outlook. That summer she traveled to different countries in Europe, including Croatia, a place he fell in love with, so the following summer he decided to get a job on the Makarska Riviera and moved there for only three and a half months, which only made him more eager for that to be his residence. “I fell in love with the people, the culture, the nature and the food. I felt at home”.
But before Croatia When it became her home, she met an Australian with whom she fell in love, so she decided to move to Perth to live with him for six years. Then the Covid-19 pandemic and the confinement arrived, and her work, which involved having a schedule from 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon, had her overwhelmed, she did not feel satisfied with her life.
So as soon as the borders opened in Western Australia in early 2022, he went on holiday to Croatia and just three weeks later their relationship ended. As she was in a foreign country and with nothing, she decided to return to a place she knew and loved, Makarska where, after a couple of months, she decided to stay.
Some time later, looking for a way to survive, he thought about creating his own business, one that would allow him to work remotely and from abroad. “I never want to work 40 hours a week again, so I don’t do it. I like to work from cafes and with friends. I just took a trip to Spain and Portugal and I was able to work from there, I can manage my time better in fewer hours than traveling to the office or having useless meetings.”
His current life after leaving the United States
Today his life gives him the opportunity to stay healthy because he walks a lot and was able to lose around 32 pounds, the same weight he had gained when he was working from home. Niav ensures that you are prioritizing enjoying your life and not just focusing on work.
However, the young woman knows that the digital nomad life is not for everyone, but she does confess that it has given her a lot of freedom and what she wants is for people to see that it is possible to create their own balance. “Where I live we have the saying Pomalo which means take it easy. That’s the beauty of living here. “We have a quiet life where we can really appreciate the little things.”
