Schlager legend Josef Laufer is dead. The entertainer even had his own show in Germany. After years in a coma, he has now died.
Prague – Mourning for an entertainer legend: Josef Laufer died on April 20th at the age of 84. His daughter Ester confirmed this to the Czech portal Extra. The fact that the media there devotes numerous articles to the shocking news underlines Laufer's importance for the Czech show scene. But he was also no stranger in Germany, showing himself to be a great rock'n'roll and pop entertainer as well as an actor.
Josef Laufer is dead: Schlager star had his own show in Germany
“A Grand Seigneur of Show Business,” was the headline Radio Prague In 2020 in a portrait and told Laufer's life story: Josef Laufer was born in France in 1939 as the child of a Czech of Jewish origin. His family moved to England and from there to what was then Czechoslovakia. Laufer developed his talents in Prague. Since then he has worked as an actor, singer and presenter for decades.
Laufer was also well received on the German market. Loud Schlagerprofis.de he once wrote Music market: “Josef Laufer, a singer with playboy looks, was courted by several German companies. Cornet probably won the race. Laufer’s reasoning: Better for less money at a smaller company than number 127 at a large corporation.”
Josef Laufer made it into the German charts with “Holiday in Spain”.
In fact, he also scored a small hit in Germany: “Holiday in Spain” placed loudly officialcharts.de in 1968 at number 27 on the singles charts. With “Today high – tomorrow down (The Josef Laufer Show)” he even had his own show on German television.
Laufer's last years were sad: According to media reports, he had been in a coma for years after heart surgery. Now he has lost his fight. His daughter thanked him loudly Blesk the nursing staff at Motol Hospital who looked after her father throughout this time. There is also sadness in the German children's song scene, which has recently lost some of its stature.
