A Havan retail chain store in the city of Lajeado was flooded due to the heavy rains that have devastated Rio Grande do Sul this week. The record rise in the level of the Taquari River, which exceeded 30 meters, caused the waters to reach the second floor of the unit.
Businessman Luciano Hang, owner of Havan, said that the store will be rebuilt. The network also used helicopters to help distribute medicines in the region and said that the proceeds from Troco Solidário will be donated to the state government to help the victims of the tragedy.
The State is facing its worst climate disaster, with 55 deaths and 317 cities affected. Since Friday the 3rd, floods have hit Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region. The Guaíba River had a record rise, which flooded downtown streets and the bus station. In addition to several points without electricity and water, Salgado Filho Airport suspended operations.
Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) said this Saturday, 4th, that Rio Grande do Sul was devastated by storms and that it will need a “Marshall Plan” for reconstruction, in reference to the support strategy led by the United States to rebuild Europe Western after the end of World War II in 1945.
According to the Estadão showed, a survey carried out by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM) shows that natural disasters, such as storms and droughts, caused R$105.4 billion in losses to Brazil throughout 2023.
