The hate speech against Prime Minister Sanna Marin (sd) ministers is also sexualized.
Prime minister Sanna Marin (sd) and the young women ministers in her government have been the subject of widespread anger, Reuters reports.
“We see that when you’re young and a woman, the hate speech directed at you is often sexualized,” Marin said in an interview on Wednesday.
Prime minister does not allow hate speech to influence his decisions, but Marin is concerned about the development of social media where services are becoming more harmful.
“I’m worried about so many others, and that’s why we want to make sure we don’t accept this kind of activity.”
Some opponents and critics of the prime minister have attacked him after appearing on the covers of international fashion magazines or spending time with social media characters, for example.
“I am who I am, a 36-year-old mother and a young person with friends and a social life,” Marin said.
According to Marin, the image of leaders is still very masculine and there are still few representatives of the younger generation among decision-makers. Marin says she wants to change that.
Published last February report revealed that Finnish women ministers are the target of gendered insults on Twitter. Much of the content came from a grouping of right-wing accounts, but they did not appear to be very coordinated. The report was prepared by the NATO Strategic Communications Center.
