Hamilton-Ferrari, a tiring approach
2024 is a strange season, in which already in March there is anticipation for 2025. And not so much for track issues – Red Bull has dominated, but we are only at the first two grands prix – but for the changes in team we will witness. Or we will be able to assist. To date there is one safety, and it is quite important: Lewis Hamilton he will take off his Mercedes suit to make his debut with the Ferrari.
Sir Lewis in red was an epochal coup, the greatest in the recent history of Formula 1 together with Michael Schumacher's move to Maranello in 1996. But if the Kaiser he will come to us as world champion (and with a team of which he was unquestionably the only point of reference on the track), Hamilton's change of team will undoubtedly be different, considering the difficulties of Mercedes and the seven-time world champion.
Hamilton never this bad in the last 15 years
Reading the numbers, the start of the 2024 season is the second worst in the #44's career: only in 2009 did the first two races go worse (disqualification in Melbourne and ninth place in Sepang). With the scoring system 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1, the Mercedes driver has never started so badly: in the drivers' standings he has only eight points, the result of a seventh and a ninth place.
Hamilton achieved half of what was the worst score so far (16) with 25 points for a victory. Teammate George Russell certainly doesn't dive into gold, but he is still fourth in the standings with 18 points, and above all he beat him in two qualifications and two races. Russell, according to Hamilton, feels the W15 more than him, while Sir Lewis struggles much more. This can also be understood from the frequent set-up changes that he tries together with the mechanics and from the risky strategies in the race (such as not stopping in the Safety Car in Jeddah). In short, Hamilton's poor results are not attributable to a lack of motivation from the Briton, but perhaps they can begin to say that in Brackley they are increasingly going in the direction of Russell.
