His Highness said in a speech on the occasion of the 25th National Environment Day, under the slogan “Action for Climate” that the wise leadership recognized from an early age the increasing risks of climate change to humans and the environment, and was one of the first countries to join the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and ratified on climate agreements, the most recent of which was the Paris Agreement, and it is also committed to updating and submitting national communication reports and periodically reviewing its national contributions.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan added that within the framework of the policy of economic diversification, the state is voluntarily implementing many programs and projects of mutual benefits, which would reduce emissions and adapt to climate change, examples of which are renewable and nuclear energy, and improving energy efficiency In the oil and gas sectors, industry, the transition to low-emission vehicles, and many more. His Highness pointed out that the state contributes to financing sustainable development projects in different countries and in all fields, and the Abu Dhabi Fund to Support Renewable Energy is one of the national contributions to support international efforts to combat climate change, and the state has set its goals regarding the future of energy in 2050, which will include 50 percent clean energy. /Nuclear and renewable/.
His Highness noted that the UAE seeks to implement a set of procedures and future plans, which include increasing the contribution of clean energy, improving production efficiency and demand management, developing environmental systems to capture and storing carbon, promoting agricultural innovation to protect the climate, and driving hydrogen to support low-carbon local industries, among others. His Highness indicated that a set of specific national contributions was announced and submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which included a 23.5 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in 2030, compared to the business-as-usual scenario.
His Highness added that the state has also formulated the National Climate Change Plan for 2050, which is based on three components: managing greenhouse gases while maintaining economic growth, building climate resilience, reducing risks, and pushing the UAE’s economic diversification agenda through innovative solutions. He stressed that the UAE’s ambition is to implement pioneering projects with a focus on building a green economy driven by innovation across its economic sectors, including oil, gas, environment, waste, energy, transportation, industry and agriculture.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the announcement of the “UAE Strategic Initiative for Climate Neutrality 2050” was the culmination of a series of successes achieved by the UAE during its course of action for climate at the local and global levels, and the country was the first country in the Middle East and North Africa and the first oil country Such an initiative has been widely welcomed locally, regionally and globally. His Highness said that the authority is committed to climate neutrality, and will devise realistic and implementable projects and initiatives with a long-term vision, to achieve the vision of the United Arab Emirates, and to ensure the achievement of climate neutrality in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, by 2050, and work as a standard in clean energy and mitigation of climate change, as it seeks The authority aims to enhance the emirate’s ability to confront climate change, mitigate risks to the environmental and economic sectors, and develop innovative climate opportunities and joint control measures that benefit the environment and the economy.

His Highness indicated that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is working in accordance with the vision of the wise and ambitious leadership in the field of climate change, noting that the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi pays great attention to issues of air quality and climate change and said that the authority is leading a number of initiatives that would reduce emissions and effects of greenhouse gases, especially emissions carbon dioxide and adapting to its expected effects, as well as seeking to enhance awareness, knowledge and capacity for permanent monitoring of climate change, reduce atmospheric emissions, improve ambient air quality, reduce heat stress, which leads to improved public health, as well as enhance community participation in Climate action by engaging all individuals, companies and relevant government agencies and enhancing the leadership position of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in climate action and dialogue at the regional and international levels. His Highness added that as part of its five-year corporate strategy for the period from 2021-2025, the authority will work to generalize measures to adapt to climate change across economic sectors and infrastructure projects, to promote an integrated approach to climate change within the framework of well-defined governance, policy and goals.. His Highness indicated that since 2010, the authority, with the support and participation of all sectors, has been preparing an emission inventory report based on the best international methodologies. The report, from which the results of the fourth inventory of greenhouse gas emissions were issued in Abu Dhabi at the end of last year, includes the results of the greenhouse gas emissions inventories on Emirate level, which is constantly updated as part of the authority’s comprehensive plan to monitor emissions, and this would support the federal government to fulfill its obligations towards the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and also enhance the capabilities of local authorities to track and manage their emissions. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the UAE is preparing to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties and that the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi will play an active role in cooperation with strategic partners to ensure its great success, stressing that he is certain that the country will host an unprecedented and successful event on a global level.
