The member of the political bureau of Hamas Mousa Abu Marzouk was interviewed this Wednesday in Moscow with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mijail Bogdanov, with whom he spoke about Israeli hostages held by the Palestinian Islamist group since October 7 of last year and the conflict in Gaza.
The visit of Abu Marzouk, a member of the political bureau and who, together with the murdered Ismail Haniyeh, promoted a pragmatic approach in negotiations with Israel for a ceasefire, arrived in Moscow in the morning without details of his agenda having been given.
In their meeting with Bogdanov, the parties addressed “the issue of the hostages” captured by Hamas, as well as “the situation in the region” and humanitarian issues in Loopaccording to Russian diplomatic sources cited by the official TASS agency.
It is not the first time that Abu Marzouk visits Russia, since he held consultations on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in Moscow last June. His visit coincides with that of the Palestinian presidentMahmoud Abbas, who arrived the day before in the Russian city of Kazan to participate in the summit of the BRICS group and meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israeli territory in which nearly 1,200 people were killed and 251 were kidnapped and taken to the Gaza Strip.
According to Israeli sources, 97 captives from October 7 remain inside the Strip, of which 34 are confirmed dead; while the Army has only been able to rescue 8 hostages alive and has recovered the bodies of 37.
Several governments have asked in recent days, after the death on the 17th of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, that the Government of Israel return to the negotiating table with Hamas to try to find a solution for the return of the hostages and the end of the conflict.
Russia, which defends a political solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the creation of two States, has not hesitated to criticize Israel for its bombings of the Gaza Strip, but also for its attacks against Lebanon and Syria.EFE
