In a decision that has already sparked numerous discussions, some of which are probably not even rooted in reality, 343 Industries has announced a change in long-term support for Halo Infinitewith the intention of shifting attention from Seasons to Operationsor one reorganization in the way of proposing new content.
The Seasons in Halo Infinite have been interpreted so far at major updates: with the launch of each new season, the developers have inserted new game modes and new contents such as maps and more, with a variable frequency that ranged from 6 to 4 months, once they found a faster pace in the latter period .
The recent Season 5 was particularly well received, but it seems that the team intends to change the organization of support by increasingly moving away from the periodic release of Seasons and focusing more on Operations, which are another distribution system for new content .
Operations, in Halo Infinite, usually last less and are published more frequently, every 4 or 6 weeks, bringing with them a new battle pass and various other new features.
This change will begin to take hold starting January 30, 2024, with the launch of Operation Spirit of Fireset to bring new customization options, new maps and additions for the Forge, as well as various other new features.
Is 343 Industries working on the next Halo?
In essence, this is a change in the organization of the support, but the addition of new content will not cease and should rather happen more frequently, essentially with smaller but less distant additions one from the other.
Despite this, many see in this maneuver a sort of beginning of the detachment from Halo Infinite for 343 Industries, given not so much by the alleged reduction in support (which in fact will not undergo major changes, at least during 2024), but rather by the references, made by the developers during the recent video diary on the news of the year, at “new projects” in development.
The studio has in fact reported that while there are teams always dedicated exclusively to support for Halo Infinite, “we have additional teams that are pushing towards the future, working on completely new projects”, said in particular John Junyszek, community manager. “There's a lot of stuff in the works here,” he added, hinting that development may have begun on the next chapter to Halo Infinite.
Meanwhile, some rumors claim that Certain Affinity's Halo Infinite battle royale project has been cancelled, although this project has never been officially confirmed.
